Prof. Gurevich Delivers Keynote Address

In October, 2012, I traveled to Cali, Colombia to deliver the opening keynote at DiseƱo+, the 5th International Congress on Research in Design at the Universidad ICESI. I presented a history of the design of electronic musical instruments, and highlighted important contemporary challenges that designers face.

Since it's not everyday that I travel to Colombia, and John Cage's 100th birthday had just passed, I also performed a new realization of Cage's Rozart Mix for 4 cassette players, first realized by students in PAT 413 Electronic Chamber Music earlier in the year. My host Daniel Gomez led me on an intrepid mission through the junk markets of Cali to source old cassette players and some vintage Colombian tapes! I'm reliably informed that it was likely the Colombian premiere of Rozart Mix. We performed at the Auditorio Comfandi in conjunction with Videosonica.
